Saturday 9th March – Haworth Hobble – Wuthering Hike
Report from Simon Anderson:
On Saturday, I completed the Haworth Hobble – Wuthering Hike (BL 31.7 miles / 4,396′), which was marvellously well organised by Keighley and Craven A.C. The race was won by Duncan Harris (Chester Tri Club) in 4:22:14 and the first lady in 23rd position overall was was Cathy Wood (Bridlington) in 4:58:49. The results are here.
As to be expected, the conditions were wuthering although didn’t affect the steel of the 315 admirable finishers. I risked expending too much energy in the first half of the race trying to hunt down a pack. Realising that I had 20 miles left to race I eased off at the twelve mile mark and followed a Calder Valley runner with local knowledge. As chance would have it the group that I had been pursuing disintegrated between Mankinholes and the climb up to Stoodley Pike having evidently gone off far too hard. The race picked up from Heptonstall where I was hastily overtaken by the chap who eventually came eighth – who as it would turn out had suffered a navigational error and accidentally run three miles more than the rest of us! Knowing that I was in tenth place caused me to dig deep for the last six miles and I was pleased to retain my place with a rewarding finishing time of 4:44:52.
Many thanks to all of the marshals, caterers and organisers for hosting an enjoyable event that I would unhesitatingly recommend to anyone in 3 Peaks training.

Well done Simon, good to see that you haven’t rested on your BG laurels and slid into a cosy running retirement!
Fancy an Ultra trail? – Hardmoor 60 in September.
Well done – foul day.
Fantastic stuff (if not a little bit mental!). Well done Simon.
