Saturday 9th March – Esholt Handicap

Saturday 9th March – Esholt Handicap

A last minute change of plan was required after the hon. handicapper found workmen replacing some lock gates, blocking off a section of the canal towpath.  So an alternative ‘Out and Back” 5 mile route was devised, reversing the original route to the canal, then turning towards Shipley for a half mile or so, with Ian setting off early and using his garmin to mark the turn round point.

Guest runner Richard Bell finished first but running his first handicap race for the club, Mark overtook everyone except Richard to take the maximum points, ahead of Kath and Phil.  Ian timing himself, was later slotted into 4th.

Phil retains his lead in the Eric Smith Handicap table on 58 points ahead of Ursula on 49 and Kath on 45.  See full handicap table here.

Thanks to Ian & Jack for marking the route and an out of action Tom Hannah for directing folk off the main road.  Next month’s race is the popular Fewston Handicap on Tues. 25th, so there should be big points on offer to close the gap on the current leaders.

  1. Well done everyone; running around a sewage works in the drizzle is a great way to spend Saturday morning.
Fingers crossed I might make it to Fewton, it’ll be a nice drive out.

  2. I hope you can make the next one Richard, it was far too cold for any smells from the sewage beds & I even saw some geese landing in them this morning!

  3. Well run everybody “up the Black and Whites” you were all brilliant, good running.

  4. Two training runs in a week, now up to 15 minutes of two mins on, one off. And if it wasn’t so wet I’d be out of my bike more.
Fingers crossed for Fewston, would be nice to do it as I actually do enjoy the final thrash along the embankment and up the hill.

  5. Glorious day, Glorious Course, Handicapper having a larf. A fine morning out. Well done to all. Bring on warmth.

  6. Reid – Good to hear from you and we are missing you. All thinking of you and your wife and family. Hope you can be strong.

  7. I might manage to make the Fewston handicap with it being on a Tues, can’t believe I’ve not done one this year yet!
