Lightwater Valley 10k – Sunday 17th March 2024

Race report Sean Hornby

It was a proper good turn turnout for Otley AC, and what was to be a first-time event for Elisa who recently joined the club following completion of the C25K! T’was a tad drizzly before we all set off, but conditions did settle, and we were all treated (!) to an overcast but dry run around the course. Dan highlighted that we didn’t run past any of the theme park rides, and he did look a tad sad and disappointed at this. His melancholy state of mind surely lifted though at the sight of the curious head of a Tyrannosaurus Rex which was visible above the trees, sadly it’s animatronics were either not working on the day or it was in a perpetual state of catatonia.

The course undulates throughout but was fairly steady, the low clouds and dreich conditions fowled any potential views of the countryside, still, a nice enough route and considering it’s a rural part of the world there was good support from the locals. The race is obviously very popular with running groups from local and afar. All very well organised and funds were in benefit of a local school so literally EVERYONE was a winner! And a big well done to Emma Hart for her podium finish as second female to finish!
