Sunday 24 February – Snake Lane 10

Report from Billy

Usually a popular race with OAC runners but with injuries & National X C Championships the day there were only two representatives for the Black & Whites, myself and Andy Webster (who actually did the Cross Country the day before!)

After setting off in the fog by the time we got to Pocklington the sun was starting to break through.

By the time we got to the start the sun was out and the temperature rising fast we knew it would be a warm race. Neither of us were expecting great times with Andy doing the cross country the day before and myself struggling for fitness following injury.

I set off at a reasonable pace but began to struggle after 2.5 miles with my legs feeling heavy & tight. I did however find a new lease of life at 5 miles and was quickly catching up the 90 minute pacer. The sub 90 minute race I had hoped for was now a possibility but it was not to be as I again began to struggle after about 7.5 miles and had to settle for a chip time of 1:32:59 in 713th position.

Andy Webster finished 381st in an admirable time of 1:20:06 narrowly missing out on the sub 80 minute time he hoped for.

The race was won by William Strangeway from Lincoln Wellington AC in 52:08. 1st lady (38th overall) was Tracey Millmore of Birtley AC in 1:01:06. There were 1035 finishers.

  1. This is another race that for one reason or another I have not done , although I have done in the past the 3 villages half marathon in Pocklington few times . Our President Billy R. did well finishing in 1.32 a solid time to do , because if a remember well the area around Pocklington is quite undulated . Also Andy W. did a great 10 miler finishing in a super time of 1.20.
