Saturday 15th March – Northern 12-Stage Road Relays

P1040335

What goes on at the relays, stays at the relays; however…

Leeds were crowned as the Northern 12 Stage Road relay champions for 2014, in a time of 4 hrs 22 mins 29 seconds.  In the provisional results available, Otley finished in our highest ever position in 20th in a total time of 4:56:02 for the 6 long (9k) & 6 short (5k) race.

The undulating Heaton Park, Manchester, a strong wind together with the quality of the runners provided a testing race.   As you can see from the photo thanks to captain Liam for providing shelter and refreshments throughout the day.

Fastest time of the day for the long legs was National Cross Country champ. Steve Vernon, Stockport 27:20 & Nick McCormick of Morpeth was the fastest on the short leg in 14.16.  See full men’s results here and report on the North of England AA website here.

The women’s results here and report here for the 6 by 5k relay fastest time of the day recorded by Eleanor Vernon, Stockport 16.26. And the photographs are here.

  1. Great result and one to be very proud off.

    Sorry to hijack…

Antonio, if you read this can you contact me in regards to the Harrogate league if you wish to run this year.
    Thanks

  2. Thank you Tom , I will contact you soon , because indeed I wish to run the Harrogate league , I run this races since when I came in England in 2001, and I just enjoy to to run around the district and I still got several friends from Harrogates’s two clubs, and also from Ripon and Richmond. See you soon

  3. Rich, that last place you took was v important. 20th sounds much better than 21st! :o)
Great running all round, goes to show what strength in depth we have now (as well as some super-fast guys).

  4. Well done on the organisation Liam. We couldn’t have done it without your efforts in rounding up the gang and setting up on the day. Much appreciated. Didn’t Lake have a scorcher?!

I’ve got an English Champs race lined up for 5th April – but it would be a great shame if we couldn’t put a team out for the Nationals…

  5. Yes folks. The soup was ‘that’ good too (photo). It turned myself and Liam into a comedy double-act, or more likely a Chuckle Brother’s tribute act? Superb team performance. Yet it didn’t stop the fastest (one lap) short leg runner of the day, Nick McCormick making me spin on the spot when he overtook me while on my final lap.

  6. Well done the men! For a town the size of Otley 200th would have been good! 20th is terrific. The splits are pretty consistent too.

  7. Brilliant effort all-round, especially to Liam for his organisation but also thanks to the Robertshaw’s, Caron, and Richard H for their support.

  8. I think it’s all been said above but Just to add, I felt really satisfied and proud coming away from Manchester yesterday in the knowledge that we really punched above our weight against some really big names and clubs.
Well done to all the team, everyone was really supportive of each other and there was a great team spirit.
Thanks to Caron for her help and to Kath Jack and Flash for their support.

  9. Sorry, forgot to mention Richard Hamer who also done a great job taking pics and helping out.

  10. Was no bother Liam! Especially since we had posh cream teas ( irish) does that mean you put the cream on before the jam I wonder? Flash seems to have hijacked some photos! Seriously you all did the black and whites proud!

  11. You all make me proud to be President of this club. Well done all – superb preformances, and a great result. Big thanks to Liam for getting all this together.
    Matt

  12. I think there’s no doubt that this was Otley’s best ever team result and I think top performances of the day must go to Mr Lake & Anderson but everyone else ran really well too, thanks to Liam for organising the team and refreshments..
