Monday 6th May – Coiners Fell race

Monday 6th May – Coiners Fell race

Mon 6th May BM 10.8k/295m Race report Colin Best Another train journey to this one accompanied by John Dade and Harry Bowness. Excellent race this year in warm calm conditions. Much of the course had dried out but one section was still very deep bog with little choice but to go for it. Not sure what happened but before 1st checkpoint, the expected leader Tom Adams came bombing down the route up. Maybe lost his dipper? Still once reached Studley…

Dandelions at Dawn – Sunday 5 May 2024

Race report Paul Tranter A 20 mile trail race at Temple Newsam organised by Its Grim Up North Running We’ve done quite a few Grim Up North events and they are always well organised, friendly and fairly low key. There were several race distances on the day, all based on a 6.7 mile circuit around the grounds of Temple Newsam. We’d opted for the three lap 20 mile race. The start and finish, as well as registration, were pretty much…

Melmerby Ripon 10km Sunday 5th May

Melmerby Ripon 10km Sunday 5th May

Race report Emma Hart Isabel and myself participated in this race. It is a fast, scenic, and rural 10K event which starts and finishes at the village hall in Melmerby. The route was quite undulating, more so than I was expecting. The start was very congested with 340 runners setting off and it took both of us a while to get into our strides. I’d had my usual pre-race dilemma of  ‘how many layers to wear?’ And looking back I…

Three Peaks Fell Race 27th April 2024

Three Peaks Fell Race 27th April 2024

Race report Toby Fisher I only decided to do this race at the beginning of April and I was probably a bit underprepared for such a big race. I’d bagged my second qualifying race at the fabulous Heptonstall Fell Race in March (to go with two Tours of Pendle) and, when our family plans changed and the diary opened up, I was good to go. Knowing that the steep climbs were going to be weakness, I tried to make the…

Wednesday 25th April – Keswick – Round the Houses

Report from Joanna Hobson We’ve been going to Applethwaite just outside Keswick for over 20 years and I’ve been aware of a mid week road race through the town but until this year I haven’t actually entered. This is a race organised by Keswick AC, and starts and finishes in the town centre. The route has been designed to weave through the streets of Keswick, around the market square, down to Friars Crag and back and includes the lung busting…

Thursday 25th April – Fewston Handicap

Race 4 of the Eric Smith Handicap Trophy was at the sunny but chilly Fewston reservoir. As often happens Rachel Crossdale running her first handicap came back a clear 2 minute winner ahead of Vicky Drake and Louisa Ramsay. Aston Brogden recorded the fastest time of the night and Emma Hart the fastest women’s time. More details on the Eric Smith Trophy championships to follow. Half points for this one with a fantastic total of 39 on the night, plus…
