An update with just under two months to go Mick Jeffrey leads the runner of the year table ahead of Sean Hornby and Paul Tranter. In the Fell runner of the year, Colin Best is at the top of the table ahead of Tom Lynch and Don Buffham. These both include races up to 5th November. Race 10 of the Eric Smith Handicap Trophy is the Weeton Handicap. The race starts under the railway bridge on Woodgate Lane, (first right after the junction for Weeton Station). Parking is fairly limited so please car share as much as possible. The first runner will be set off at 11.00am everyone else at intervals after that, with aim that everyone returns to the finish at the same time. The great british summer has lead to the normal parking field being unusable, there will be very limited parking, from the village to the junction marked with the circle on the map. so please, please car share as much as possible. Race 8 of the Eric Smith Trophy is the 5k route from Prince Henry’s playing fields. The route starts with a lap of the playing fields then along the track to the top entrance to the park. Race 6 of the Eric Smith Trophy is the, just under 5 mile, anti-clockwise lap of Thruscross handicap, starting from the car park entrance, see route details in the couple of maps below. The first runner will be set off at 7:15pm, everyone else at intervals thereafter, if you’re new to the club handicaps see more information here & note it will probably worthwhile bringing some midge repellant just in case😊.
Race 7 of the Eric Smith Handicap Trophy is the Liz Fawcett Leathley Handicap, 10k, first off at 7pm. There is parking at the start but not that much, so please car share or cycle over as much as possible. Race 3 of the 2023 Eric Smith Trophy is the Esholt Handicap, a 5 mile route starting next to the disused water treatment works at Esholt, a mixture of road & track, including 1.5 miles on the canal.
