Dentdale 14.2 Mile Race. Saturday 8th March.
Race report Matt Podd
I did this road race last year in freezing conditions. This year was a complete contrast and was the warmest day of the year. I had to remove my base layer at about mile two – and was hot in just a vest. Good undulating course that is part of my build up for Leeds Marathon. It’s a stunningly beautiful area, with lots of nature and views to look at as you go round. Saw the first lambs of the year.
There are two distances on offer and at the halfway point the 7.9 mile runners head for home, leaving the masochists to continue to the head of the valley and back. Felt strong towards the end – which bodes well for the marathon, though I was 3 minutes slower than last year.
No medal or T shirt, but you get a packup tea prepared by the local Women’s Institute, egg roll, scones and two cakes. Even managed a swift pint before driving home.
1. Danny Cliffe, Hercules Wimbledon, 1.16.40
6. Rebecca Robinson, Kendal AAC, 1.31.27
(both of the winners were 9 minutes ahead of the next runner in their gender!!)
104. Matt Podd, 2.20.59
135 ran.
