McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k 2024 (20/10/24)

Race report Rachel Crossdale

The McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k is a flat route along Scarborough seafront but the mixture of wet sand, cobbles and north coast weather means it’s not super fast. There were concerns this one would be cancelled because of Storm Ashley but fortunately it went ahead. This is a sell-out event every year with 2200 runners.

It started off dry with a bit of rain around 3k onwards but then at the north bay turnaround there was a horrific wild wind whipping rain and sand about on the return leg. It was definitely character building but destroyed everyone’s pace. I am pleased to say I persevered and it calmed down a bit when back round the south bay and made for some good conversation back at HQ.

Because the road is only closed for the morning they set off the slower 10k group with the elites and then the 5k 20mins after the 10k so if you’re a middle of the pack runner like me there is a fair bit of slalom to get through the 10k walkers near the beginning and then the tail end of the 5k towards the end but it’s quite nice to have a lot of company on route.

There were a lot of spectators (despite the weather), a really good atmosphere, and it’s well organised so I would recommend this one.

I was the only OAC runner and got a time of 59:32

First Male: Adam Thacker (Unaffiliated) 33:12

First Female: Daisy Glover (Unaffiliated) 35:38
