Melmerby Ripon 10km Sunday 5th May
Race report Emma Hart
Isabel and myself participated in this race. It is a fast, scenic, and rural 10K event which starts and finishes at the village hall in Melmerby. The route was quite undulating, more so than I was expecting.
The start was very congested with 340 runners setting off and it took both of us a while to get into our strides. I’d had my usual pre-race dilemma of ‘how many layers to wear?’ And looking back I wasn’t cold enough before we’d set off so the extra layer was definitely too much. After about 2km I was too hot! Thankfully there were 3 water stops on the way around.
The route was on quiet country roads all the way around and coming back up into Melmerby there was lots of support by the side of the road. The tea and cake at the village hall was spot on and Isabel was the fastest female under 18 and won a big trophy and two packs of Heck sausages! She’s vegetarian but dad is very pleased with the prize!

Melmerby 10k in the past used to be very popular with our club members , I did it twice and every time there were at least 15 members . Emma H. had an impressive performance , Emma crossed the finish line in a fast 44.14 , considering that the route is undulated and with much of off road , it is a good result . Also Isabel H. had a great run , she finished with a strong 54.02 .
