Saturday 23rd March – Kirkby Overblow Handicap
Race 3 of the Eric Smith Trophy was the first ever race from Kirkby Overblow and it lived up to it’s name. A strong westerly wind helped and hindered at various points around the course. The route starts with a couple of miles downhill to Netherby. From there it’s pretty much uphill all the way home, apart from the final quarter of a mile. If you look at the ordnance survey map, there’s a bit of a clue as the top of Bodrum Hill is called Cliff Top 😊.
In his 241st club handicap Phil won his 10th, his first in 6 years and his first win was almost 33 years ago, June 1991! Jamie, with the fastest time of the day, just ran out of road finishing in a close second, followed by a similar gap to Dan in third. Three virtual runs from Helen, Rogan and Tom, with Helen with the fastest women’s time slotting in with a fourth place finish.
Maddie Delucchi tops the handicap table, 5 points clear of Kate Lodge, Rogan Asthon and Lee Gumbrell in joint third another 2 points behind. See the full table here.
Fewston hosts April’s handicap, on Thursday 25th, see details here.
