Sunday 7th August – Round Hill Fell Race
A big thank you to everyone who helped out on the day, especially those marshals who were really flexible on the last minute changes and Timble resident David Fox and Caron on the catering.
The initial race accounts look to show am approx. £600+ raised for our two club charities.

After a really dry July, the usual bogs up to the first checkpoint at Round Hill were non existent and a sunny but not too warm day lead to ideal conditions.
Robert Smith from Leeds City was first back at the finish but realised he’d missed the last checkpoint, so the first place went to the 2017 winner, Chris Miller of Wharfedale Harriers. William White from North Leeds FR came 2nd ahead of Andrew Collier.
Alice Leake improved on the second from last year to win this year. Ruth Thackray, Bingley Harriers was second in a time just 4 seconds slower than the v50 record of Maureen Laney from 2005 and Hannah Jacobsen was third.
The veterans prizes went to V40 Marc Sennett, Wharfedale Harriers, V50 Paul Crabtree, Bingley Harriers, V60 Barry Atkinson York Knavesmire, V70 David Tait, Dark Peak. V40 Niamh Jackson, North Leeds FR, V50 Ruth Thackray, Bingley Harriers, V60 Alison Bennett, Ilkley Harriers which was also new age category record.
Apologies the team prize should have gone to North Leeds Fell Runners, clear winners with William White, Andrew Foster, Niamh Jackson and Ellis Maguire, ahead of Bingley Harriers and Ilkley Harriers in 2nd and 3rd

Club President Graham L. run a powerful fell race , he crossed the finish line in a solid 1.05 . Also Oliver R. had a great run on this 9 miler finishing in a significant 1.09 . Sara E. she is really in good form , she had a splendid performance finishing in a fast 1.16. A special thank you to Andrew Robertshaw for putting on the FRA calendar this lovely Round Hill Fell Race every single year .
I’d agree about the flapjacks – how did you get that sticky top?? Really well organised event, will definitely cross the Pennines for this one again next year.
Thankyou for your comments, Jean, Antonio & Craig.
I have a constant supply of flapjack on the go at home , good energy food for my gardening work., the recipe is always slightly different to what extras I add. The race batch had sultanas soaked in a ginger water for several hours, plus some dessicated coconut the porridge oats was mixed with a couple of jars of golden syrup & a bit of butter
