Sunday 31st July – South Cave 10k road race

Report from Joanna Hobson

After the heat of the last few weeks, a soggy wet morning made for very comfortable running conditions at this morning’s South Cave 10k.

Organised by Kingston Upon Hull Athletics Club, the race starts and finishes in the picturesque East Yorkshire town of South Cave and the 10k course takes in some beautiful scenery through quiet closed, gentle undulating country lanes. Starting at the beautiful gates of Cave Castle, you first run down through the historic town of South Cave and then run through the countryside to the pretty village of Ellerker, before looping back and returning to South Cave with a couple of short sharp climbs and a circuit of a field to keep you on your toes until the finish line!

Despite a few niggles in my right knee and hip I felt good throughout and I pushed myself to the finish line. My time of 52:33 wasn’t a PB, but it was my fastest 10k time this year and earned me the first prize in my FV60 age category, so well pleased with that!

There were 549 finishers

Winner and 1st male – Oliver Donkin Barton and District AC 34:29

1st female – Charlotte Ward City of Hull AC 35:30

223rd Joanna Hobson – 52:33 1st FV60

  1. It was not a PB. for you in for this 10k , but considering that it was undulated with two sharp hill , I would say that to cross the finish line in 52.33 is a good result and after all you left behind you 326 good runners all eager to to pass you again . Well done to Joanna H. for the solid performance .
