Sunday 22nd May – Cookridge Community 10k

Report from Joanna Hobson

This is a local multi-terrain 10k race in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Having been born and bred in Cookridge I thought I’d give this local charity race a go. It started at the Cookridge Village Scout Hall on Pinfold Lane, going down the lane to Paul’s Pond and then passing under the A660 to Golden Acre Park. Here the route took you around Golden Acre, up and down the grassy paths and in and out of the woods. For those who have done the Golden Acre relays arranged by Abbey Runners you’ll know the route. After a loop of the park and around the lake, you retraced your steps back up Pinfold Lane to the finish at the Scout Club. Fortunately it was a dry and bright day so the woods and trail paths were nice and dry and I managed to stay upright! Karen Robinson and her partner Giles were also taking part.

We were rewarded with a T shirt, medal and goody bag courtesy of the sponsors. All proceeds of the run will go to Cancer Research UK so hopefully lots of money was raised on the day. There was also a 1 mile fun run for families with some amazing fancy dress costumes.

  1. Splendid performance from Joanna H. in this new 10k , Joanna is in great form at the moment , she crossed the finish line in a fast 55.01 . Also Karen R. had a good run finishing in a solid 1.01 , considering that it is a mixed terrain route it is not a bad result at all .
