Thursday 5th May – Dick Hudson Fell Race

Report from Matt Podd

Whats not to like about a local Fell Race on a sunny Thursday night? 7 miles, 1100 ft of climbing, organised by Wharfedale Harriers. An easy race and good for beginners, but with a sting in the tail – finding the right descent line to the finish is challenging. I drove over and met up with the President in the carpark. Met other Otley AC at registration where we paid our fiver ( how cheap is that!). Much bollox was talked about the correct descent line and then suddenly we were off up on to the top of the moor for the fast run over to the Dick Hudson Pub. No time to stop for a pint, but back to the start/finish on the out and back course. I was in the rear of the field, racing Colin all the way. He came passed me twice, but I had a good descent and got passed him to finish ahead. As its an out and back course you have all the faster runners come passed you as they are returning. Tom looked like a gazelle and was miles ahead of the field. Bit of an issue with the timing so no times – but positions are:-

1 Tom Adams – Ilkley – 42:19

33 Mr Lake – 52:31

38 Hinda Hardaker – K & C ac – 53:31

59 Toby Fisher – Hope the knees heal soon! – 56:33

66 Oli Richards – 57:30

100 Megan McCall – 1:05:59

128 Matt Podd – 1:14:23

132 Colin Best – With no vest or kit! – 1:16:36

143 Don Buffham – 1:25:15

146 runners

  1. Brilliant performances from our club members in this 7 miles race , first black and white back was our President Graham L. he crossed the finish line in a splendid 52.31 , then Toby F. with a injury , he finished in a fast 56.33 . Oli R. run well too finishing in a solid 57.30 . Megan M. had a fantastic run in this Dick Hudson , she finished in a powerful 1.05. Matt P. also run strongly finishing in a significant 1.14 . Fell runner Colin B. run a steady race finishing in a robust 1.16 . My friend Don B. had a great night on the Ilkley Moors finishing in a very good 1.25.
