Monday 27th December – Ribble Valley 10K

Report from Richard Smith

I took part in the extremely popular Ribble Valley 10K over in Clitheroe, organised by Blackburn Harriers. Very inclusive race from the serious elites to a man dressed as a giant snowman (or snow-woman?).

The course is mildly undulating with a few ups but with that come nice downhill stretches. Over the bridge and a cruel uphill kick to the finish. Lovely surroundings and a route that keeps you interested throughout.

I hadn’t tapered for the race due to training for Sevilla Marathon so was pleased enough to come home in 35:11. Finishing 130th earmarked how many quality runners were out there which was great for being able to run in a pack. Didn’t see any other Otley runners.

The race was won by the ever impressive Jonny Mellor in a staggering 28:59 (I really recommend watching the live stream on Ribble Valley FB page). Equally impressive was the female competition with Jess Piasecki winning in a time of 31:38 closely followed by Laura Weightman.

First male and winner – Jonny Mellor 28:59

First female – Jess Piasecki 31:38

For Otley AC

Richard Smith – 35:11

  1. This 10k is very popular also because attracts very fast runners from all over the North of England , Richard S.crossed the finish line in a quite strong stride in 35.11 , well done to Richad S. for the brilliant performance .

  2. It’s looking good for your marathon Richard. It’s so good to see an Otley runner like yourself road racing for speed. I came second in that race years ago to someone in snowy conditions. Never really liked the course race, but it was, and still is hugely popular race. Have a great marathon, and I hope you reach your target.

  3. It is good to hear again from Ian Fisher , I hope that this year Ian will join us in the Eric Smith Trophy .
