Report from Simon Quin
Wednesday, 24th November was the 7th race in the Leeds 5k series at the Brownlee Centre in Leeds. It was a cold, still & dry night; excellent running conditions as normally there is a headwind on the long straight. 99 runners competed in three heats, each heat now a mass start but still using chip timing for the results.
I’d been chasing a sub 20 minute 5k for a little while and had got tantalising close a few weeks ago, so I was hopeful in such good conditions and set off fast. Very soon, I realised that I’d maybe gone a little too fast and tried to ease back a bit. I found a steadier pace and tried to keep with a small pack. On the finishing straight I could see the clock was still showing 19 minutes and tried to finish as fast as I could before it ticked over to 20, getting a new PB and a very pleasing chip time of 19.57!
The last race of the series is a mass start Christmas Special at 3pm on Sunday 12th December. Link here:
