Sunday 28th June – Bradford Millennium Relay
Report from Sean O Halloran: The Bradford Millennium Way Relay is a relay of five legs with two runners per leg. Starting from and returning to Bingley, taking in Wilsden, Denholme, Oxenhope, Haworth, Oakworth, Steeton, Silsden, Addingham and Ilkley with some stunning scenery en-route. The race attracts teams from Yorkshire and Lancashire. This year there were 50 teams taking part.
Leg 1 Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club to Penistone Hill Country Park:
For Otley Hugh Pearson and Tom Paget finished 22nd in 01:39:38
1st were Wharfedale Harriers Men (C Holmes and L Athersmith) in 01:17:33
Leg 2 Penistone Hill Country Park to Laycock:
Report from Hannah:
Gemma and I arrived at a blustery and overcast Penistone Hill Country Park in Howarth and wondered what the heck we were doing, running in the wind yet again and against teams who were obviously far fitter than us, although a couple of people from leg 1 looked worse for wear as they crossed the handover line. Hugh and Tom arrived slightly earlier than expected which was a pleasant surprise as we were starting to get cold, and off we went on our 9.4 mile leg with 3 other teams close behind us. We had carried out a reccie of the route a few weeks ago and were confident we knew where we were going and were ready for the hills that just kept on coming. Despite all the climbs you never seem to have much downhill to recover, you pretty much climb all the way up onto Keighley Moor which is then flat, or as flat as moorland can be, followed by a long awaited down section before yet more climbing before finishing at Laycock.
We had a really good run and enjoyed ourselves, it was pretty much uneventful apart from a curious highland cow at the beginning and my comedy fall in the woods towards the end. We’d like to thank the ladies of Laycock Village Hall for their hospitality, great cuppa and scone which was essential for our post-race recovery.
Whoever is organising this next year can put me down for the same leg, I’m looking forward to it again already.
For Otley Gemma Harrington and Hannah Lupton finished 49th in 01:56:12
1st were Bingley Harriers Men A (Ian Holmes and Andy Brown) in 01:00:31
Leg 3 Laycock to Silsden:
For Otley Sean O’Halloran and Colin Best finished 44thin 01:35:54
1st were Wharfedale Harriers Men (Paul Crabtree and Nathan Martin) in 00:54:18
Leg 4 SILSDEN TO ILKLEY:
For Otley Lisa Maughan and Sara Richard finished 38thin 01:48:47
1st were Airedale (Pete Hopson and Chris Williams) in 01:03:42)
Leg 5 Ilkley to Bradford & Bingley Rugby Club:
For Otley Jim Sneath and Laura Martin finished 23rd in 01:39:15
1st were Wharfedale Harriers Men (Nick Charlesworth and Spenser Riley) in 01:13:29.
Over all Otley finished 37th (24th in the open category) in a time of 08:39:46

9,4 miles on the keighley moors is hard running for any runner Hannah and your report is nice and explain your day at the race ,you and Gemma H. ran well. Also Tom P. and Hugh P. had a strong performance in this Millennium Way relay . Well done to everybody.
